Increase in free early learning and childcare

The Scottish Government is increasing the amount of free early learning and childcare from August 2020.

From August 2020, all three and four year olds, and about a quarter of two years olds, will be entitled to 1140 hours of free early learning and childcare over the school year. This works out as about 30 hours a week during term time or 22 hours a week if used throughout the year. The current entitlement is 600 hours a year, which is about 16 hours a week during term time.

This increase is being rolled out in advance of August and is already available in some parts of Scotland. People should check with their council to find out what is available in their area.
