Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) is committed to our obligations under data protection legislation, and ensuring that whenever we process personal data, we do so in a transparent, fair and lawful manner.

Privacy Notices
General - for advice clients and members of the public
Our Privacy Notice, available below, sets out, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, how we collect and use your personal data.  

It is important that you read this Privacy Notice, together with any other Privacy Notice we may provide on specific occasions when we are collecting or processing personal information about you, so that you are aware of how and why we are using your data.

Extra Help Unit
CAS operates the Extra Help Unit (EHU) - you can find the EHU Privacy Notice on the EHU website.

Project Privacy Notices
CAS runs several projects which have short form Privacy Notices - if you are a client of these projects you should refer to the relevant Privacy Notice to be read in conjunction with the CAS General one and the relevant CAB General Privacy Notice.

Citizens Advice Bureaux
If you have accessed services from a local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) you should also refer to that CABs Privacy Notice.

We use cookies to make www.cas.org.uk work and collect information about how you use our website.

Essential cookies keep your information secure while you use our website. We do not need to ask permission to use them.

  • CookieControl
    • This cookie is used to remember a user’s choice about cookies. Where users have previously indicated a preference, that user’s preference will be stored in this cookie
    • Expires after 90 days

With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to collect data about how you use our website. This information helps us to improve our service. Google is not allowed to use or share our analytics data with anyone.

Google Analytics stores anonymised information about:

  • how you got to our website
  • the pages you visit on on our website and how long you spend on them
  • any errors you see while using our website

    • These help us count how many people visit this website by tracking if you’ve visited before
    • Expires after 14 months

We also partner with Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioural metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve our website.

Website usage data is captured using first and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of content and online activity. Additionally, we use this information for site optimisation.
