East and Central Sutherland Citizens Advice Bureau is an independent charity providing advice, information and support to people across our community. We are a small, friendly team of staff and volunteers working across our rural communities delivering a busy advice service. The Welfare Rights Officer will play a key role in ensuring the provision and development of quality advice, information, casework, and representational advocacy on statutory benefits and other social welfare matters, as appropriate.  As a Welfare Rights Officer, you will provide professional, efficient, and effective welfare advice and support services to meet the often-complex needs of clients. You will work closely with a team of advisers and volunteers to ensure the delivery of holistic support services for clients.

Our Bureau has been providing free, impartial advice since 1939, and continues to deliver an essential service, empowering local people to navigate the cost of living crisis and many other challenges. As an independent charity, this is only possible thanks to the support of our volunteers, including trustees.

We have grown and modernised in the past decade, launching a variety of projects and forming innovative partnerships. These have enabled us to expand and diversify our services, working in Stirling city centre, in rural outreach locations and co-located with partners, as well as providing advice by email and telephone. We work with partners ranging from NHS addiction and mental health services to local food banks.

The Business Support Officer role requires a committed, resilient and well-organised team player to work with the Finance Manager to provide proactive administration support to our CEO, staff and the Board of Trustees.

The principal functions of the role will be to undertake administration and provide support in areas such as:

  • Primary responsibility for digital communications, including the website and social media accounts.
  • Support the Finance Manager with financial, HR and general administration.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal staff, external partners and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective systems are in place across the organisation, suggesting improvements where appropriate.
  • Provide secretarial support to the Board of Trustees and CEO, including organising meetings, taking minutes and maintaining records.
  • Assist with event management, from arranging and participating in small internal meetings to supporting the Annual General Meeting.
  • File correspondence and other documents relating to the above activities.

The Money Advice Assistant will support with the heavy and growing demand of the Money Advice function, driven by the cost-of-living crisis. The Money Advice Assistant will increase our debt advice capacity and assist with lower-level aspects of the debt resolution process including:

  • Single-debt resolutions
  • Pro rata repayment proposals
  • Drafting letters to creditors and chasing responses
  • Compassionate write-offs
  • Income & expenditure assessments and trigger figures
  • Policy in Practice Better Off calculations

The Bureau Triage Assistant will provide a welcoming and effective first point of contact for clients accessing the Bureau’s services. The role involves gathering key information, assessing needs and ensuring individuals are directed to the most appropriate support.

This is a busy frontline role requiring effective communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to respond to a wide range of client needs. The postholder will often be the first point of contact for clients and plays a key role in ensuring people receive the right support at the right time.

Inverness, Badenoch and Strathspey CAB is an independent charity providing advice, information and support to people across our community. We are a friendly team of over 60 employees and volunteers working over 3 locations (Inverness, Raigmore and Aviemore) delivering a busy advice service. The Service Manager will be responsible for the safe day-to-day running, strategic growth, and overall management of the Women’s Domestic Abuse Outreach Service operating under the Highland Domestic Abuse Service (HDAS) South framework. The role involves managing and overseeing a team of Women’s Domestic Abuse Outreach Case Workers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed, and empowering support to women across Inverness, Badenoch and Strathspey. The Service Manager will spearhead quality assurance and risk management frameworks to ensure high standards of practice and the physical/emotional safety of both service users and staff.

Additionally, the post holder will represent the organisation at external multi-agency meetings, actively contribute to developing and expanding the wider outreach service, and ensure all staff receive professional supervision and adequate training.

Please note: We value the expert contribution of women with lived experience of domestic abuse. However, we cannot recruit current service users to our staff team, due to conflicts of interest, and in the interests of supporting women in recovery, we would expect that at least six months has passed since last use of any domestic abuse services before recruitment to a post would be considered.

South West Aberdeenshire Citizens Advice Bureau (SWACAB), based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, is an independent and innovative advice organisation providing holistic advice and support to local people. The postholder will be responsible for the quality of advice, standard of service provided for debt advice, including multiple debts, income maximisation through the benefit system and other means and debt remedies/legal routes to debt resolution.

Ideally, you will have previous Citizens Advice Bureau experience and qualifications (MATRICS) in debt advice and have worked to National Standards (Scottish Legal Aid Board accredited). We are looking for someone with prior case management experience, who can operate to Financial Conduct Authority standards. Training will be available for the successful candidate.

Citizens Advice and Rights Fife (CARF) is an independent organisation providing holistic advice and support across Fife. As our service grows, we are recruiting a Carers Income Maximisation Worker to support unpaid carers.

In this role, you will deliver tailored advice to help carers understand and access their full income and benefit entitlements, working via phone and face-to-face appointments at outreach locations and CARF offices. You will also support project development by partnering with local organisations, carer networks, and health and social care professionals, and may deliver awareness sessions or attend community events.

You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of welfare benefits and social security legislation, ensuring accurate advice and high-quality service delivery.

We are seeking someone with a good standard of education, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping others. Experience in advice work or knowledge of the social security system, particularly for carers, is desirable but not essential. You must be able to explain complex information clearly, work independently and in a team, and uphold CARF’s values and mission.
