Bus companies across Scotland will give people on benefits who are looking for work free bus travel in January 2013, following campaigning by Scottish bureaux.
The scheme is called Bus for Jobs and involves bus companies including First and Stagecoach services and Travel Dundee. It runs for one month and will entitle unemployed people to free bus travel during that time.
To be eligible people need to be:
- Over 18
- In receipt of Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or income support
- Unemployed for more than 3 months and less than a year
- Actively seeking work.
CAS have been working with bureaux in the Highlands to campaign for free bus travel for job seekers.
To access the schemes people can pick up a JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card from their local Job Centre Plus. A full list of companies can be found on the Bus for Jobs website.
