About the job

Parkhead CAB is seeking applications for a suitably experienced individual to join their staff team.  The Youth Training Officer post is part of the Citizens Advice Spells Help (CASH) Project which is jointly funded by Citizens Advice Scotland and Young Start delivered by the Big Lottery Fund until  March 2019 with further match funding to be obtained to run the project until at least March 2020.

This new project which will provide training and support to a team of young volunteers who will provide information and advice on key issues such as benefits, housing and debt and basic life skills to their peers.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced trainer and mentor to join Parkhead Citizens Advice Bureau.  The postholder will work with the three bureaux in the East End of Glasgow – in Bridgeton, Easterhouse and Parkhead.    The main aim of the post is to lead young people in a programme of personal and social development and to provide support and training for them to be able to deliver advice within the CAB service to their peers. The ultimate aim will be to also give the young advisers the confidence and knowledge to further enable them to deliver outreach work to their peers at other organisations both voluntary and statutory in the local area.

With proven experience in identifying individual training needs as well as designing and delivering group training, the successful candidate will be able to work on their own initiative and have effective communication and organisational skills.  They should also possess the ability to support and motivate others within an advice setting.

Ideally the applicant will also have a CAB or advice giving background with an understanding of and commitment to the aims and principles of the CAB service and its equal opportunities policies.  Experience of working with socially excluded young people aged 16-24 is also desirable as is Youth or Community work experience.
