Minimum Income Guarantee

The Citizens Advice network in Scotland is joining the Poverty Alliance’s calls for a Minimum Income Guarantee ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections in May 2026.

What is a Minimum Income Guarantee

Every day our network of Citizens Advice Bureaux help more and more people coming through their doors struggling to stretch their incomes to pay for essentials.

That’s why we’re calling for a Minimum Income Guarantee - a transformational idea centred on setting a minimum income level below which nobody in Scotland would not be allowed to fall.

The Minimum Income Guarantee can provide the solid foundation that we all need, no matter what life throws at us. Through a combination of fair paid work, high quality services, and better social security, all of us will have the right to a minimum standard of living. It's an investment in a better future where we all have the freedom to build a more secure life for ourselves and our households, and a better society for everyone.

What you can do

  1. Read the Poverty Alliance’s Minimum Income Guarantee core script and talk to friends, family and colleagues about it.
  2. Post about your support for the Minimum Income Guarantee on social media.
  3. Write to your local MSP and local candidates to call for the inclusion of a Minimum Income Guarantee in Party manifestoes.
