South West Aberdeenshire Citizens Advice Bureau (SWACAB), based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, is an independent and innovative advice organisation providing holistic advice and support to local people. The postholder will be responsible for the quality of advice, standard of service provided for debt advice, including multiple debts, income maximisation through the benefit system and other means and debt remedies/legal routes to debt resolution.

Ideally, you will have previous Citizens Advice Bureau experience and qualifications (MATRICS) in debt advice and have worked to National Standards (Scottish Legal Aid Board accredited). We are looking for someone with prior case management experience, who can operate to Financial Conduct Authority standards. Training will be available for the successful candidate.

Citizens Advice and Rights Fife (CARF) is an independent organisation providing holistic advice and support across Fife. As our service grows, we are recruiting a Carers Income Maximisation Worker to support unpaid carers.

In this role, you will deliver tailored advice to help carers understand and access their full income and benefit entitlements, working via phone and face-to-face appointments at outreach locations and CARF offices. You will also support project development by partnering with local organisations, carer networks, and health and social care professionals, and may deliver awareness sessions or attend community events.

You will maintain up-to-date knowledge of welfare benefits and social security legislation, ensuring accurate advice and high-quality service delivery.

We are seeking someone with a good standard of education, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for helping others. Experience in advice work or knowledge of the social security system, particularly for carers, is desirable but not essential. You must be able to explain complex information clearly, work independently and in a team, and uphold CARF’s values and mission.

The Money Talks Plus Adviser will play a key role in the delivery of an independent, free, impartial and confidential advice, information and advocacy service, to Association standards, to assist vulnerable families and people living in North Aberdeenshire to deal with poverty related issues affecting their lives. This project aims to improve access to, and the efficiency of, financial health checks for vulnerable families and older people, providing holistic financial inclusion and income maximisation advice in order to improve their financial circumstances.

Main responsibilities

The Money Talks Plus Adviser aims to provide the most effective service to suit the needs of the client.

  • Assist in all Bureau enquiries.
  • Undertake diagnostic interviews with clients by phone, face to face or video call to assess whether individuals are eligible to apply for benefits or to access other income maximisation support.
  • Help with resolution of straightforward enquiries.
  • Signpost clients who can do more to self-help.
  • Refer to Session Supervisor for help with emergencies.
  • Provide information and advice on all aspects of Social Security Benefits.
  • Carry out benefit checks.
  • Provide assistance with the completion of benefits forms.
  • Refer to Session supervisor for support with more complex issues.
  • Make referral to internal Benefits/Money Advice Teams or another appropriate agency.
  • Maintaining case records including detailed statistics.
  • Maintaining expertise in relevant legislation eg welfare rights and benefits.
  • Ensure that financial gains are recorded appropriately.
  • Providing information for project reports.
  • Attending team and staff meetings as required.
  • Work within the aims and the values of the CAB service.

Falkirk Citizens Advice Bureau is an independent and innovative advice organisation providing holistic advice and support to local people.

Our Triage Officer plays a key role in the delivery of an independent, free, impartial and confidential advice, information and advocacy service, all delivered to Association standards.  

This is done by offering a triage support service which assesses client need at the earliest opportunity, effectively prioritising support and allowing more effective appointment/resource management. The type of issues that the Triage Officer will help advise and direct on include: Benefits, Income maximisation, Budgeting, Money & Debt, Housing, Relationship, Employment and Legal.

As part of the Forth Valley CAB Addiction Advice Project, the Addiction Advice Worker will provide specialist, trauma-informed welfare benefits, money, debt, and housing advice to individuals affected by alcohol and substance use; particularly those engaged with Recovery Services in Clackmannanshire.

The post focuses on reducing the practical and financial stressors that can function as barriers to recovery, including benefit insecurity, debt, housing instability, and fuel poverty. The role also supports recovery practitioners and partner agencies, enabling them to better support clients while maintaining their strong recovery focus.

The role also involves delivering assistance with DWP and Social Security Scotland paperwork, including assistance with gathering medical evidence, benefit applications, mandatory reconsiderations and, where appropriate, tribunal representation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver holistic CAB advice, information and casework support on benefits, money, debt, housing, and utilities, recognising the link between financial hardship, trauma, mental ill health, and addiction. 
  • Provide immediate, practical, face to face support to clients attending recovery cafes or attending other support services. 
  • Support clients with Universal Credit, Adult Disability Payment, Housing Costs, Utility bills, and Housing.
  • Assist clients to access and submit supporting medical and recovery evidence to DWP and Social Security Scotland. 
  • Provide income maximisation, benefit checks, and financial capability support, including access to crisis support such as fuel vouchers, food banks, and grants. 
  • To liaise with all partners within the Alcohol Drug Partnership (ADP) in Forth Valley to maintain and develop effective collaborative working relationships.
  • To liaise with other agencies such as the local authority housing departments, mental health professionals and other agencies engaged in the recovery agenda and to work with these agencies towards the development of a seamless CAB advice service to the client.
  • To work with the aforementioned agencies in the pursuit of a proactive, empowering, informing, and preventative approach to problems which impair the recovery process.
  • To develop and maintain referral procedures with the Forth Valley ADP and other relevant agencies.
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records in line with CAB standards and funder requirements.
  • To assist in the provision of full project reports and analysis to the Forth Valley CAB Addiction Advice Services.
  • To be proactive in promoting the service and raising public awareness of the assistance available.
  • To keep up to date with welfare reform, relative developments and legislative changes.

A Help to Claim Adviser delivers a holistic advice and support service aimed at clients on completing their initial Universal Credit claim and supports them through to their first payment. This involves helping with the online forms, the evidence required, and verifying their identity online using telephone and web chat.  

The adviser will be expected to complete full holistic issue diagnostics, support with issues in scope of the project and any emergencies, then refer on to further services available to the client (such as drug and alcohol support). The adviser should maintain local connections with partner organisations and the DWP within their region.

The adviser will be line managed by their local Bureau Manager but will be operationally responsible to the Help to Claim Co-ordinators for providing their regional service and local knowledge. They will be required to liaise with the Co-ordinators regarding their shifts, helpline coverage and holiday requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • To conduct telephone and web chat interviews, using sensitive listening and questioning skills to allow clients to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities
  • To explore clients’ circumstances, support needs and access channel preferences considering language barriers, accessibility needs, and issues around digital access and ability
  • To assist with the setup of a Universal Credit account, including setting up a personal email account and/or bank account, if needed
  • To provide support to clients completing and submitting their claim form, ensuring clients have identified and gathered all evidence and documentation needed
  • To support the client through the first assessment period and helping them to complete the identity verification process online, if needed
  • To support clients to prepare for their first appointment with a Jobcentre Plus work coach
  • If appropriate, to support the client with applying for any additional support such as short-term advance and/or access to the Scottish Welfare Fund
  • To ensure the client understands the payment schedule and takes action to prepare
  • To liaise where appropriate with bureau staff and other relevant agencies
  • To record, update and maintain information on a case management system for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval, statistical monitoring and report preparation
  • To ensure that all work meets quality standards and the requirements of the funder
  • To provide and develop a quality advice service in relation to Universal Credit, including the ability to act as a ‘best practice lead’ for other staff and volunteers
  • To keep abreast of the latest developments relating to welfare benefits and Universal Credit
  • To ensure local knowledge and connections with regional partner organisations, such as Job Centres, alcohol and drug support organisations and food banks are well maintained to ensure local referral routes for further client support beyond the scope of the project are available

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Demonstratable completion of Citizens Advice Bureau Adviser Training Programme
  • A sound working knowledge and experience with social security benefits and entitlement, with specific focus on Universal Credit
  • Understanding, maintaining and practising high standard of case recording requirements according to the HTC project specification and the CAS quality assurance standards
  • Ability to use telephony and IT systems to deliver services across multiple channels (web chat, telephony and video) via Avaya, Near Me, Zoom, Teams and other systems
  • Experience of using a range of IT tools to carry out work, including case management systems, Microsoft Office, internet and email etc. 
    Ability to work without supervision and prioritize workload
  • Experience of working with people with multiple and complex needs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and accessible manner
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge of a range of enquiry areas to aid with identifying emergencies
  • A commitment to the aims and principles of Citizens Advice Service
  • Ability to operate as a team player and communicate effectively with colleagues and managers
  • Regional experience engaging with, and building and maintaining relationships with, local and regional stakeholders (such as Job Centres, Food Banks, drug and alcohol support organisations, etc.)

  • Ability to commit to a rolling rota to be assigned for times between 08:30 and 18:00 (variable hours up to 32 hours p/w)

The Session Supervisor is the main operational lead for our drop-in and scheduled advice sessions. They ensure the smooth running of advice services, supporting advisers (paid and volunteer) in the delivery of high quality advice, handling difficult client interactions, and maintaining the flow and capacity of casework.

The role involves second-tier supervision, case checking, practical and emotional support, and on-the-ground problem solving. The post holder ensures that cases are followed up appropriately, escalates complex issues to managers, and helps maintain efficient and responsive service delivery.
