More about the job
Citizens Advice and Rights Fife (CARF) is Fife’s leading independent advice organisation, providing holistic advice and support to local people for over 25 years. Our service is as important as ever and, as we move into our next chapter, the organisation is keen to further develop links with our local communities, providing the support we are renowned for in locations familiar to our clients.
As a Community Based Welfare Benefits Adviser you will provide advice and support to clients and other service users across 15 areas of advice, in various community locations, including Fife Council Job Clubs. Working alongside the staff and volunteers in such locations, you will be required to give complex benefit advice and take on appropriate casework to support vulnerable clients with benefit queries or issues. You will ensure internal CARF referrals are made to debt advice and will establish constructive relationships within public and third sector organisations.
You will be expected to keep your skills, knowledge and experience up-to-date in all key areas of advice and service delivery to allow you to undertake quality of advice checks as well as provide the highest possible service to clients of CARF.
You will have a good standard of education, high quality personal skills and a desire to improve lives. Experience of working in an advice giving capacity and/or a knowledge or interest in the social security system would be advantageous but not essential.
You will be able to communicate complex information in a manner easily understood, whilst always mindful of the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice Bureau and CARF. The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as supporting and delivering on CARF’s vision and values.
