Department of Work and Pensions consultation on DLA/PIP - Citizens Advice Scotland response

CAS’s response to the Government’s consultation on the introduction of Personal Independence Payments outlines potential impacts in Scotland of the proposed changes in Scotland.

CAS welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Work and Pensions committee consultation on the proposal to replace DLA with Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Citizens advice bureaux provide advice to a significant number of clients who are unable to work because of ill health or disability – in 2009/10, around one in six Scottish CAB clients were in this category. In 2006, CAS carried out research on the costs of illness and disability for CAB clients claiming Incapacity Benefit (IB) and/or Disability Living Allowance (DLA), which highlighted the vulnerability of this client group.
