More about the job

About the job

Note: Since March 2020, Covid Pandemic Protections have limited access to the court buildings and currently the service is delivered via tele and videoconferencing with limited in-person hearings.

You will join our busy lay representation team providing advice and representation in Hamilton Sheriff Court for people affected by debt and housing matters.

Our service has been delivering high quality advice and representation for 15 years, is compliant with Scottish National Standards and works collaboratively with a range of local partners.  We provide a service for anyone who is facing eviction from their home or court action for debt.

You will be a competent and experienced advisor in housing and/or debt and familiar with working to SNS organisational and personal standards. An empathetic individual you will be a skilled listener, holistic in your approach and understand the wider societal issues which impact on local citizens. You will be a skilled negotiator and able to present and argue a case in civil court and tribunals or directly with landlords, mortgage lenders, banks and other creditors.

Experience in representation before courts and tribunals would be a distinct advantage but applications are encouraged from experienced caseworkers / advisers who wish to develop representation skills.

Full induction, training and support will be provided.
