Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS), our 61 member Citizen Advice Bureaux (CAB), the Citizen Advice consumer service, and the Extra Help Unit, form Scotland’s largest independent advice network. Advice provided by our service is free, independent, confidential, impartial and available to everyone. We are champions for both citizens and consumers and in 2015/16 the Citizens Advice Service in Scotland helped over 310,000 clients in Scotland deal with over one million issues overall.

We are currently recruiting for the post of Information Officer. The successful applicant will join a team of experienced Information Officers who produce two comprehensive and regularly updated web-based information systems, one for advisers in Citizens Advice Bureaux in Scotland, and one for the general public. The Information Team write new advice content, mainly based on devolved Scottish legislation, and by researching and making changes to meet regular production deadlines.  The team work together with colleagues in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to support a UK wide advice network.

The successful applicant will be able to analyse complex information quickly and accurately, and communicate the important aspects clearly and concisely in writing.  They will be able to work on their own initiative yet be flexible enough to contribute to supporting the team to meet its strategic plan. They will have experience of analysing user need and writing digital content.

This post holder will also interact with other teams in CAS, in order to ensure the advice websites link effectively and are updated in light of relevant policy and campaigning work.

The post is based in Edinburgh, although occasional travel and overnight stays will be required.

  1. Skills to regularly produce writing that communicates complex information clearly, accurately and accessibly for both a specialist and generalist audience.
  2. Strong analytical skills – the ability to research, assimilate and organise complex information, including primary and secondary legislation, quickly and effectively.
  3. Proven capacity to work with accuracy and attention to detail under the pressure of deadlines.
  4. Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of Scottish parliamentary processes and a good understanding of the devolved areas of Scottish law.
  5. Ability to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising workload to meet agreed targets.
  6. Ability to work as part of a team, contributing to the overall strategic goals of the section.
  7. Flexibility to be willing and able to take on a range of tasks shared across the team.
  8. Ability to use standard software packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Google applications and willingness to learn new IT skills, including content management systems for web publishing.
