An exciting opportunity has arisen for 9 highly motivated people who are interested in a career as a Trainee Money Adviser. Industry recognised training will be provided, including an opportunity to gain an advice and guidance qualification.

Successful candidates will work towards becoming an accredited Money Adviser by January 2023 with the support of a full training and mentoring programme.

This unique opportunity is a collaboration between Glasgow Citizens Advice Bureaux, Money Matters and GEMAP and is funded by Glasgow City Council. Successful candidates should live in Glasgow and not be currently employed. They may be offered placements at a range of venues across the city.

Candidates can expect a supported work environment where diversity is welcome and valued.

Selected candidates should demonstrate an understanding of Equal Opportunities, have good interpersonal skills and a working knowledge of how to use computers.  

Summary of Job Remit

  • To undertake relevant training courses under the direction of the Project Coordinator and through support and mentoring, work towards full money advice accreditation by 31 January 2023.
  • Following training, provide an in-depth money advice service to clients within Glasgow by undertaking detailed casework and providing timeous advice on multiple debt problems. Ensuring all cases are compliant with all aspects of FCA regulation and in line with Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Giving.

Main Responsibilities       

  • to work towards attaining money adviser competence by 31 January 2023.
  • to work towards SVQ in Advice and guidance.
  • under instruction from accredited money advisers, undertake detailed casework for clients, particularly in relation to multiple debt cases.
  • to learn and understand relevant legislation particularly in relation to welfare benefits, debt, bankruptcy and other debt solutions.
  • to ensure that systems are maintained, for case recording, statistics, follow up work and quality control.
  • to work co-operatively with other agencies and community groups to improve the provision, standard and accessibility of money advice.
  • through peer assessment and quality assurance checking of money advice cases, receive constructive feedback to assist in the identification of training and development needs.
  • to work with colleagues, sharing information and changes relevant to the role of money adviser including changes in legislation.
  • to be proactive in highlighting money advice matters that relate to the successful delivery of money advice.

General Responsibilities

  • to be considerate of, and respectful to, colleagues and clients’ needs and limitations and act in a supportive manner as outlined in the organisations aims and principles.
  • to assist in the improvement and development of the organisation’s money advice service.
  • to attend staff/team meetings as required.
  • to assist in the identification of own training and development needs.
  • to abide by the health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
  • to undertake any other duties and responsibilities which may reasonably be determined by the Manager.
