    A campaign to end unfair and unclear charges on deliveries to rural areas, with its roots in Skye and Lochalsh CAB, has won support from the UK Government.  Jo Swinson, Consumer Affairs Minister and MP for East Dunbartonshire, will launch the UK-wide statement of principles for parcel deliveries, based upon a document first drawn up by CAS, the Scottish Government and the Scottish Retail Consortium, on Thursday 31st July in Glasgow.

    Bereaved Scots are finding it hard to pay the growing costs of burying their loves ones, according to new research published today by Citizens Advice Scotland. 

    The average cost of a simple funeral in Scotland today is £3,240 - an increase of 7% year on year since 2004. And this rise has occurred against a background of falling household incomes and a cut in the emergency assistance that people can claim for funerals, leaving some families unable to bury their deceased at all.

    Citizens Advice Scotland have said Royal Mail must maintain the ‘Universal Service Obligation’ *(USO), which protects delivery services for people in remote and rural areas.

    Royal Mail have today said that increased competition in the industry is reducing its profits, and warned that this might put the USO at risk.

    Dumfries and Galloway Citizens Advice Service's (D&GCAS) link-up with a local football club is off to a flying start.

    D&GCAS announced their partnership with Annan Athletic a few weeks back, the first between a Scottish Football League club and the service as the BBC reported. The two organisations will work together on various public projects, with the first launching last Saturday at the League Two club's Galabank stadium.

    Businesses in Scotland are being hit hard by the 'postcode penalty' of high delivery charges – with a new project to assess the scale of the problem announced today by Citizens Advice Scotland. 

    Over the last three years CAS have been highlighting the impact of this problem on individual consumers. But it also hurts the business community. So today we are launching a special online survey that is just for businesses in Scotland, allowing them to have their say so we can assess the extent of the problem.

    Citizens Advice Scotland have welcomed news that that more people are complaining about poor customer services. e.g. in areas like energy, retail, internet and transport. 

    The British Ombudsman Service has published figures today (Monday 10th February) showing that 38million consumers across Britain last year made a complaint about a service or product. This amounts to a complaint every 1.2 seconds.
