September is Will Relief Scotland month. Will Relief is a scheme to have a will drawn up by a solicitor in exchange for a donation to charity.
It is a partnership between Scottish solicitors and four charities based in Scotland specialising in development work overseas. Every September, participating solicitors in Scotland waive their fee for writing a basic will. Instead, they invite you to make a donation to the Will Relief Scotland charities. Suggested minimum donations are £80 for a single basic will, £120 for a pair of basic mirror wills, or £40 for a codicil, a supplement to a will.
There is more information on the Will Relief Scotland website at www.willreliefscotland.co.uk. The website has a tool that lets you search for a participating solicitor by area.
There is another scheme, Will Aid: this usually takes place in November. Its website is www.willaid.org.uk.
