November is Will Aid month. Will Aid is a scheme to have a will drawn up by a solicitor in exchange for a donation to charity.
Will Aid is a partnership between the legal profession and certain charities. Every November, participating solicitors waive their fee for writing a basic will. Instead, they invite you to make a donation to the Will Aid charities. Suggested minimum donations are £95 for a single basic will or £150 for a pair of basic mirror wills.
More information about Will Aid and the charities that it supports is available on its website at www.willaid.org.uk. The website contains a useful will planner to help prepare for the meeting with the solicitor and a tool to enable you to search for a participating solicitor by postcode.
There is another scheme, Will Relief Scotland: this usually takes place in September. Its website is www.willreliefscotland.co.uk.
