The Scottish Government pauses 'super sponsor' scheme

The Scottish Government has announced a pause in its ‘super-sponsor’ scheme that allowed Ukrainian refugees to select the government as a sponsor in visa applications. The suspension began on 13 July 2022, with the government stating that it plans to review the scheme in the hope of reinstating it after three months.

The pause is intended to allow staff to deal with a backlog of visa applications and lack of suitable accommodation for Ukrainian refugees.

Neil Gray MSP said that pausing the scheme would not affect anyone who submitted an application before 13 July, or who has already been granted a visa.
