Santa backs CAS campaign on Payday Loans

CAS staff were at the Scottish Parliament this morning to launch our new Christmas poster campaign on payday loans. We were joined by MSPs from all over Scotland – and by a very special guest all the way from Lapland.

Since CAS published our report card on the Payday Lenders 2 weeks ago, politicians have been more keen than ever to engage with us to discuss what can be done to help fight personal debt. The UK government has introduced a cap on the cost of lending, but MSPs too are discussing ways the Scottish Parliament can act.

Margaret Lynch says, “The key to our campaign is to raise awareness; to spread information to people about the dangers of payday loans, and to stress that there are alternative lending options. That’s what our new set of campaign posters and leaflets do. These have been sent to every CAB this week, so we urge all bureaux to display them as soon as possible.”

CAS will contact all bureaux whose MSPs met us with Santa today, to allow them to follow up if they want to. Bureaux have until the end of friday 13th December to apply for a Payday Loans Fast Grant (this link is not accessible to the general public).

More details can be found on the original press release.
