Thousands of consumers lose out every year to subscription traps online which pretend to be free product trials, typically slimming pills and beauty products, to dupe people out of their bank details.
Such companies offer free trials on-line that the consumer only has to pay a small postage and packing fee, typically less than £5. However unknown to them their details are stored and then charged a recurring subscription of up to £100 a month.
Citizens Advice Scotland and Citizens Advice (England and Wales) have seen an increase in the number of people who have come for advice after being duped by a subscription trap on-line. The two organisations working together have now launched a survey to collect the experiences of consumers who have been affected by such a scam.
We want to find out how you have been affected and gather intelligence about the firms operating such schemes so we can take action with enforcers where necessary. All responses are confidential to the Citizens Advice Service but will help us take action against rogue firms.
