Help with costs of visiting premature or ill newborn babies in hospital

Since 1 April 2018, parents or guardians can get help with the costs of visiting their premature or ill newborn baby in hospital.

The Scottish Government has set up the neonatal expenses fund to help parents or guardians cope with the extra costs they have in this situation.

Parents or guardians can claim for one return journey and one meal for each day that their baby is in hospital. They do need to give proof of the money they have spent, such as receipts or bank statements. They also need to claim within 3 months of the baby getting out of hospital. There is more information on the Scottish Government website.
