Citizens Advice Scotland have said energy suppliers must ensure they always give accurate information to customers over tariffs.
The CAS statement comes in response to a report published today by consumer group WHICH, showing that the big energy companies did not always give clear factual information when questioned about the cheapest deals available.
A CAS spokesman said,
“With one third of Scottish households in fuel poverty and fuel bills rising to unprecedented levels, people in Scotland are increasingly concerned about the soaring costs of energy.
“Switching to a cheaper deal is one of the few ways in which consumers can take control. It is essential that they have access to all the proper information necessary to enable them to do so.
“We would be extremely concerned if the energy companies were being anything less than 100% accurate in the information they give to customers.”
