CAS welcomes new report showing under-spending in the Scottish Welfare Fund

Citizens Advice Scotland has welcomed today's report by the Poverty and Inequality Commission about the levels of unspent money in the Scottish Welfare Fund.

CAS Social Justice spokesperson Mhoraig Green says,

"Citizens Advice Scotland welcomes the Poverty and Inequality Commission’s recommendations on the Social Welfare Fund, which is an important part of the social security net that protects people from the financial fall out of coronavirus.

“Despite significant extra investment from Scottish Government, we have been concerned by reports from Citizens Advice Bureau about the difficulties some people have had accessing the fund. It is critical that people in crisis know that this emergency support is available to them and that barriers to access are addressed as a matter of urgency so that the money can get to the people who need it.”
