Citizens Advice Scotland has responded to the publication of the report of the Scottish Government's Advisory Group on Economic Recovery (AGER) from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
CAS Chief Executive Derek Mitchell said:
“Scotland faces an unprecedented economic challenge following Covid 19 and it is vital that polices are in place that promote inclusive growth.
“Citizens Advice Scotland welcomes many of the recommendations in this report, such as further promotion of fair work and green investment.
“The proposal for a jobs guarantee for young people is an important contribution. Our experience suggests a cycle of poverty begins when people cannot access an income to live on through employment. We also know that young people risk being disproportionately disadvantaged by the crisis.
“It’s essential that policy makers appreciate that economic growth will be hampered without maximising incomes and minimising the cost of living for people.
“The Citizens Advice network in Scotland unlocked £1.3billion in gains for people in the decade following the 2008 financial crisis, and our network is ready again to help people through the coming economic storm.”
