CAS gives evidence to final review of Work Capability Assessment

CAS has submitted evidence to the final independent review of the ESA Work Capability Assessment, carried out by Paul Litchfield.

In the response CAS highlights:

  • ongoing issues with inappropriate assessment decisions
  • severe ongoing delays for clients needing a Work Capability Assessment
  • clients not being fully aware of the requirements on them to undertake Work-Related Activity
  • resulting problems with sanctions
  • long delays and problems with mandatory reconsiderations not being accepted
  • delays in the processing of successful tribunal decisions and associated backpayments
  • the importance of getting the next assessment contract right from the beginning, learning the lessons from Personal Independence Payment
