Citizens Advice Scotland have criticised the employment rights changes announced today by Vince Cable, calling them ‘a blow, and a step back in social progress’.
CAS Head of Policy Susan McPhee said,
“On top of all the financial pressures that Scots are having to suffer at the moment, this is a real blow to workers rights, and a step back in hard-won social progress.
“The Scottish CAB service were involved in 2,857 new employment tribunals last year. We also dealt with over 5,000 dispute resolution cases and 8,874 dismissal issues.
“What is being suggested is that such people would have to pay a fee for trying to get their case heard. Many of the people we see will not be able to afford that fee.”
