Volunteer voices

Here’s what some of our existing volunteers think about the work they do for their local Citizens Advice Bureau…

“I like to help people, also it’s a great chance to gain experience and skills, and – for me - to integrate into society.”

“I was self-employed but stopped when I had my daughter. But I still wanted to do something part-time so, as I’d once used a CAB years ago, I joined the local bureau.

What I like most is the variety of issues you encounter and the clients and volunteers you meet.”

“There is a selfish element to volunteering as I want to get something out of it as well.

But I have learnt so much from being with the CAB and you really do feel you are making a difference.”

“I am studying finance at university and felt I needed to gain some work experience.

A lot of the problems that people bring to the bureau do relate to debt and money. I helped one woman to reclaim £1,500 in bank charges accrued over six years.

So it’s certainly a good way to be able to help people.”
