Will Relief is a scheme to have a will drawn up by a solicitor in exchange for a donation to charity. September is Will Relief Scotland month.
Will Relief Scotland is a partnership between Scottish solicitors and four charities based in Scotland specialising in development work and the relief of poverty overseas.
Every September, participating solicitors in Scotland waive their fee for writing a basic will. Instead, they invite you to make a donation to the Will Relief Scotland charities. Suggested minimum donations are £80 for a single basic will, £120 for a pair of basic mirror wills, or £40 for a codicil, a supplement to a will.
There is more information on the Will Relief Scotland website at www.willreliefscotland.co.uk. The website has a tool that lets you search for a participating solicitor by area.
There is another scheme, Will Aid: this usually takes place in November. Its website is www.willaid.org.uk.
