    The Consumer Futures Unit has launched a tender focusing on the impact and effectiveness of codes of practice in non-domestic water markets in other countries (including elsewhere in the UK), and in utilities and other (primarily regulated) industries in the UK, particularly in regard to their efficacy for consumers. The CFU will use the findings and recommendations from this research to inform our contribution and input to the work that the Scottish water industry is undertaking with stakeholders to develop a code of practice for the non-domestic water market.

    Today, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published the first comprehensive study into destitution in the UK and has revealed that 1.25 million people, including over 300,000 children, were destitute in 2015. These figures are an alarming warning that more needs to be done to prevent people from experiencing periods of no income, and to provide adequate support when people are faced with a crisis.
