Information for NHS Staff
IASS provides an independent source of information and advice to anyone who uses the National Health Service (NHS). These case studies show how IASS caseworkers have helped patients and their families.
Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) has produced a bite-sized e-learning module, IASS for Health Professionals which includes information on the benefits of IASS for the NHS, the benefits of IASS for the client. This can be viewed on the NHS Education for Scotland Equality in Health website.
The Independent Advice and Support Service takes a broad approach to healthcare. It recognises the impact that all the different facets of an individual’s circumstances can have on their health. Working in partnership with busy NHS staff, IASS caseworkers can help access the right support, advice and services for individuals. When things go wrong, they can ensure an individual has help with raising concerns and seeking redress.
Resolving issues early
By collaborating with NHS staff, IASS caseworkers can help to resolve issues health service users have before they become formal complaints. This can result in less stress for clients, and better outcomes and understanding between service users and the NHS.
Adding value
The knowledge and expertise of IASS caseworkers can add value to the work of health professionals by assisting referred patients with a wide range of issues. This can free up valuable health service time. It can also smooth the patient journey, whether patients are being discharged from hospital, treated in the community or simply seeing their GP.
