How are CAS and bureaux funded?

There's no short answer to this question.
Citizens Advice Scotland funding
Citizens Advice Scotland is primarily funded by the Department of Trade and Industry's Consumer Affairs Directorate. CAS is a registered charity - visit how CAS is governed for more information on our management structures.
CAS continues to seek additional sources of funds, over and above the grant-in-aid we receive from the DTI, to finance other work. For more information on other organisations that support our work, visit the working in partnership page of this website.
We plan our future work carefully to make sure our work has a real impact in Scotland and UK-wide - you can download the CAS Corporate Plan 2004-7.
You can also download the CAS Annual Report 2003/4 for more information on how we used the monies we received that year.
Citizens Advice Bureau funding Each citizens advice bureau across Scotland is a separate, registered charity that is responsible for securing the funds they need to deliver a service to the people that live in their community.
How bureaux are funded varies from area to area, but most Scottish citizens advice bureaux receive an element of funding from their local authority.
For Scottish bureaux overall, in the period April 2002 - March 2003:
- 49.3% of funding was core local authority funding
- an additional 8.3% of funding received was from local authorities for projects
- the Community Fund provided 13.3% of bureau funding
Contact your local bureau for a copy of its annual report if you would like to find out more about how it raises the money it needs. Or, why not think about volunteering for your local bureau as a fundraiser?
