Social policy - Working for change
Scotland's CAB service isn't just the country's leading independent advice service - it's also a leading advocate for social change.
We collect evidence from around the country and use it to demonstrate that change is required. We think this is so important that it's one of our twin aims.
And change is possible. Recently the use of CAB evidence has contributed to:
-
An announcement that debt relief will be included in the Debt Arrangement Scheme
-
An Office of Fair Trading clamp down on excessive bank charges
-
An amendment in the Consumer Credit Bill introducing lay representation for time orders in Scotland, creating parity with English legislation
-
Extension of the National Minimum Wage to 16 and 17 year olds
-
Office of Fair Trading debt collection guidance considering failure to negotiate with a CAB as unfair practice.
