Kinship Care event - Improving Local Authority Practice
Wed 27 April 2011, Edinburgh
A one-day information and practice sharing event for local authority officers across Scotland who are involved in developing and implementing kinship care schemes. The day provided an opportunity for local authority officers - both practitioners and developers of policy - to share information and ideas in a confidential setting. There was input from Scottish Government and Children 1st.
See flyer for further details.
Wed 1 December 2010
Despite adverse weather conditions, our event Kinship care: Improving local authority practice went ahead as scheduled on Wednesday 1 December 2010. Many thanks to those of you who managed to attend. The snow meant a significant reduction in terms of delegate numbers, but we nonetheless had a very useful and informative day. Key issues discussed were:
- different legal mechanisms for making payment to kinship carers
- interactions between kinship care payments and benefits
- transfers of responsibility for children moving from one local authority to another
- future direction of Scottish Government policy on kinship care
- ensuring that kinship carers are not put under inappropriate pressure to accept children without proper support in place.
